Stuart
R. Verseman, MD, FACS attended Rush Medical College
where he obtained his MD in 1986. At Baylor College of Medicine
in Houston, Texas he completed his residency in 1991 and from
there went to Portsmouth, Virginia at the Naval Medical Center
to become a staff surgeon on the USS Theodore Roosevelt until
1994. Following that he went into private practice performing
general and vascular surgery in the Northwest Chicago suburbs
until 2002, when he joined another group of surgeons where he
specialized in bariatric, breast, and general surgery.
In 2005, Dr. Verseman joined General & Vascular Surgery
and became the medical director of bariatric surgery at Borgess
Medical Center where he specializes in laparoscopic gastric
bypass, gastric sleeve and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding
procedures. He also performs general and laparoscopic surgery
and was board certified in 1992 and recertified in 2002.
Dr.
Verseman joined HealthCare Midwest in 2008 as part of General
& Bariatric Surgery. It is proven that bariatric surgery
is the only effective therapy for morbid obesity and its complications.
In May of 2009, Dr. Verseman and his practice along with Borgess
Medical Center obtained Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®
accreditation from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric
Surgery (ASMBS) and the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) which
signifies that they have measureable outcomes and high standards
of care. Bariatric surgery is a complex and challenging undertaking
and many of the patients present sharply increased surgical
risks, which makes it important to have a well-trained staff
who provide competent and compassionate support, and are capable
of dealing with the physical and emotional demands of their
patients.
