Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Mark attended Youngstown State University. As a student there, his experiences included c1inicals at Youngstown Physical Therapy, Inc. and Silverio Physical Therapy, both outpatient orthopedic clinics, and at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, an acute rehabilitation setting. He was also chairman of the Student PT fundraising committee. Mark graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2000 with a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy. In addition, he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) from Des Moines University in 2009.
After college, he accepted a position at Borgess Hospital as an on-call Physical Therapist. He worked at various sites of the hospital, including outpatient clinic, acute care and neuro rehab. At the same time, Mark worked part-time at Industrial Medicine performing initial evaluations and treatments for the outpatient orthopedic clinic, as well as, treating athletes from Glen Oaks Community College during the basketball, baseball, and softball seasons.
Joining K Valley Orthopedics P.C. in 2002, he conducts gait analysis, stretching, and strengthening workshops for a local runner's association to educate participants on proper form and injury prevention. In addition, he volunteers his time with a local running group as a coach and is active in educating runners about Good Form Running (GFR). Mark also volunteers his time with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. For the past two years he has been on the MRC committee for the Kalamazoo Klassic race and the Pump and Run event.
He was able to earn his Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (M.D.T.) certification in the spine through the McKenzie Institute in 2006. He is very active in running and weight lifting, which helps him maintain an understanding of the physical stresses placed upon athletes. Mark also enjoys Fantasy Football during football season.
He currently resides in the Schoolcraft area.
