Gretchen graduated from Mercyhust College in 1997 with a Bachelors degree in Sportsmedicine, a Major in Athletic Training, and a Minor in Psychology. She went on to receive her Masters in Athletic Training from Western Michigan University in 1999.
During her graduate studies at WMU, Gretchen worked at K Valley Orthopedics, P.C. / Southwestern Michigan Sportsmedicine Clinic. Here she worked in Aquatic Therapy and became the Director of Aquatic Therapy and Recreation. In addition, Gretchen was the Certified Athletic Trainer for the Kalamazoo Quest W-league women’s soccer team, as well as the Kalamazoo Kingdom men's PDL soccer team. Currently, she is the program director for Sportsmetrics and administers the corresponding ACL injury prevention programs to athletic populations. In addition, she serves as the off- ice strength and conditioning coach for the WMU Synchronized Skating team, both collegiate and senior, and has traveled with them internationally as Team USA. Gretchen also provides outreach visitations to 7 area high schools, as well as works clinically in the Physical Therapy department.
Gretchen is certified by the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association (ATC), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), the American Red Cross as a CPR/First Aid Instructor, the Aquatic Therapy Rehabilitation Industry (ATRIC), as well is the certified instructor for Sportsmetrics ACL injury prevention programs. In addition she is a certified Skinfold Assessor for the MHSAA Wrestling Weight Monitorance Program, as well as a MHSAA Coach Advancement Program (CAP) instructor, where she teaches modules in Sports Medicine as well as Strength and Conditioning to coaches statewide.
Past athletic accomplishments include attaining a Gold Medal at the 1995 Champion International Regatta in the Women's Varsity 4, in which she was a competitive collegiate rower in her undergraduate years. In addition, she is also a Gold Level Ice Dancer. Currently, she enjoys participating in various marathons, 1/2 marathons and 5K races for charitable events, often running with her husband.
Gretchen resides in Mattawan, Michigan with her husband and three children.
