Charles
Carson, RN, CNOR, an honors graduate from Bronson
School of Nursing has had vast experience in the healthcare
industry
since 1975. He has specialized in open-heart, plastics, ophthalmology
and administration working as a Certified Surgical Technologist,
Ophthalmic Technician, Certified First Assistant, Registered
Nurse and Director of Surgical Services in a hospital before
he joined HealthCare Midwest as Director of Surgical Services
in 2000. Charles has also freelanced privately as a surgical
assistant with various private surgical practices as well
as a group of plastic surgeons and has more than 10 years
experience with a large ophthalmology practice performing
visual fields, fluoroscien angiography and fundus photography
as well as assisting in the operating room.
In the early 1990's, Charles started combining his love of
travel with his passion for medicine and began participating
in and then organizing volunteer surgery teams to third-world
countries. Charles has served as Medical Team Director for
Healing the Children of Michigan and has been the prime organizer
of numerous plastics and ophthalmology teams to such destinations
as Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Russia. Charles has volunteered
with humanitarian organizations such as Esperanca, Hearts-in-Motion,
the American Red Cross and Operation Kindness, as well as independent
efforts. Over the years these volunteer teams have performed
hundreds of life changing procedures for children and adults
with cleft lip and palate repair, surgical treatment of problems
related to burn injuries, cataract surgery as well as many
other procedures. Charles' most recent trip was to Coatzacoalcos,
Mexico in January of 2007 with Operation Kindness. The team
consisting of two plastic surgeons, a pediatrician, anesthesia
specialists and other medical support staff performed 90 surgical
procedures and treated many other children and adults. Charles
will be returning to Coatzacoalcos with Operation Kindness
in January 2008 with a plastics team to perform many life changing
procedures on many children and adults in the region. See the

In
late 2005 Charles was invited to join Healthy Globe, Inc. Board
of Directors as Director of Equipment and Supplies. This is
a Kalamazoo based project building a 40 bed hospital in Oyugis,
Kenya. Charles has the expertise and vast connections to obtain
supplies and new and used equipment, often times at no cost.

In the future Charles plans to organize specialty surgical
teams to Oyugis once the operating rooms are completed.
Charles also serves as President of Reach & Teach (an alternative
school for high risk teenagers in Kalamazoo, MI) www.reachandteachpp.com and is Vice-President of the Michigan Ambulatory Surgery Association.

and his wife, Annelies, reside in Schoolcraft, Michigan and have
three adult children and four grandchildren.
