mPay is a payment program that uses recent technology to streamline billing, making it a more efficient process for patients. A swipe of your credit card is made on the date of service for any patient balance amount owed after insurance pays. There is no upfront payment, only authorization for patient balances after insurance pays.
What cards are accepted?
MasterCard, VISA, Discover Credit and Debit Cards. Also Health Savings Account and Flex Spending Account cards (HSA, FSA)
Is identity theft a concern for me as a patient?
HealthCare Midwest protects both your medical and financial information. Your card number is transmitted electronically to the national Mpay data storage center in Minneapolis, MN. No employee or management team member can retrieve your card number.
Will my credit card authorization be used to pay any balance with any doctor at HealthCare Midwest?
No. The authorization is only good for a single date of service.
Do you hold my funds?
Your credit line will be reduced by the amount of authorization for a time interval determined by your bank. This is typically 24 hours, but may be longer in some instances. It then returns to the normal credit limit.
What if my insurance rejects the claim by mistake? Will my card be charged?
A valid Explanation of Benefits has to be received by your insurer to initiate a credit/debit card charge for the balance. We will correct the claim and re-bill before using your card for the patient balance.
How will I know what my insurance paid and what you are charging me?
In the majority of cases, you will receive the explanation of benefits before HealthCare Midwest so you will know that the insurance has paid and what the patient owing balance is.
My copayment should be all I owe. Why do you swipe my card?
Insurance plans differ in regard to their coverage of services. Healthcare Midwest payment data shows approximately 40% of patients will owe more than their copay either through deductible or co-insurance/cost sharing amounts. Use of the M-pay program simplifies and expedites the billing process by eliminating repetitive/redundant billings, communications, check writing, and mailings.
